Gamers who grew up with the PS and Xbox 360 consoles likely remember the golden age of Assassin’s Creed, when the series was annually, competing head-to-head with major franchises like Call of Duty and FIFA.
Starting from the second installment, players were treated to a new location and each year in the Assassin’s Creed universe, up until Syndicate was released in 2015.
After taking a break to focus on quality, Ubisoft is now looking to ramp up its release schedule for Assassin’s Creed. According to journalist Tom Henderson, the company is targeting a goal of launching two Assassin’s Creed titles each year—essentially one new game every six months. Projects like Shadows, Invictus, a remake of Black Flag, and Hexe are already in place to bring this ambitious plan to fruition.
In addition to news about Assassin’s Creed, Henderson also revealed that Ubisoft has several other exciting projects in the pipeline. These include Far Cry 7, a survival shooter titled Far Cry: Maverick (often compared to Escape from Tarkov), a new Ghost Recon game, and a revival of the Rayman series. This is certainly great news for Ubisoft fans.
Previously, Insider Gaming reported that there’s even more good news for Assassin’s Creed enthusiasts: Ubisoft is preparing to “explode” with 10 new titles over the next five years. From familiar names like the Black Flag remake to mysterious projects such as Hexe and Invictus—and with Assassin’s Creed Jade making its way onto mobile—the future of the franchise looks incredibly diverse and promising. This represents a significant gamble for Ubisoft; if successful, they could hold one of the most successful gaming franchises in history.
However ambitious Ubisoft’s plans may be, game development always carries inherent risks. It’s possible that some projects among these 10 upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles could face delays or even cancellations. Past failures like Skull and Bones or delays with Beyond Good and Evil 2 serve as valuable lessons that Ubisoft must keep in mind.
Moreover, this dense release schedule raises questions about quality and brand sustainability. Rapid-fire releases could lead to “idea burnout,” diminishing each title’s value and disappointing fans. Therefore, it can be said that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will serve as an important “test” determining whether Ubisoft has what it takes to execute this bold new strategy successfully.
